Buffy Title Card Roughs 2

Episode 3 is called The Witch. The plot is a witch is cursing cheerleaders. The first design I started with two mundane objects from the plot and then the witches caldron. It is a little mundane looking. The second version of this design I designed on taking a cheerleading trophy from the end and put the various curse effects on the trophy. So it’s blindfolded, has no mouth and one hand is on fire. I kept one hand in tack to you can see it’s for cheerleading. Then it submerged in the caldron adds some more dread to the picture. Also smoke from the spell makes for a nice way to do the letters.

Episode 4 teacher’s pet is a little harder. The title doesn’t really help with the visuals. Miss. French being a preying mantis is kinda supposed to be a reveal so I didn’t want to do anything two obvious. So I first tried sexy silhouette where the teacher’s pointer wand is cutting off student’s heads might work at implying that future without giving it away. Then I was stuck on a second idea. Since she is a bug monster I thought maybe having her pinning boy students like butterflies might be good since she is also teaching bio. If I finish one it will probably be the first one.

I liked Witch a lot so that’s one of the finished title cards.

Misfits of Avalon Writer Notes Chapter 6

I picked this quote for Kimber’s chapter because even though she is the youngest she is the most on the ball and seeing the bigger picture.

Page 21 – 23

Even though this chapter is from Kimber’s POV I hope that someone could make an educated guess about Rae’s motive behind her actions. First she is trying to ditch all of them and then partners up with the person who will  be the most disinterested in what she is doing.

I stuck to down shots for Kimber realizing Rae and her aren’t hanging out to push how disappointed she is.

Page 24 – 26

Elsie having to get her siblings before her and Kimber go investigate was to show another side of her. She’s helping out her family in-between shoplifting and ditching school. And this scene starts what is a lot of what this chapter is. Elsie and Kimber connecting and starting to get used to each other.

Page 27 – 29

So Kimber’s own self doubt and the way Morgan treated her, is why she reacts to Elsie question with anger. Then Elsie doesn’t reach to their shoving match with anger because that is business as usual for her.

I like how Elsie turned out in panel 2 of 29 where she is sitting in the sand.

Page 30 – 34

I liked drawing all their glowy ring while looking around. Also once the search begins both Kimber and Elsie buck up.

The rock continuing to hit Elsie in the head is a hint for how to resolve stuff.

Page 35 – 40

During the fight I liked to pull out when they were yelling and when they were quiet. Cause I wanted the distance between them to be pushed.

Elsie’s reaching out to Kimber with the hair dye starts out sounding insulting so Kimber who is thinking the worst will react defensively. But she wins her over with pissing off parents proposal.

Buffy Title Card Roughs 1

So I’ve been doing cover design exercises by trying to design title cards for Buffy Episodes.

So the first is Welcome to the Hellmouth. The first design is the school on top of a well the Hellmouth. I thought making the school tiny over that toothy deep hole. It doesn’t look quite a good as it did in my head. So I might tighten it up a little.

Then second design for it I wanted the entrance of the school to be threatening with fire inside the doors. Since the whole point of Buffy is high school as hell metaphor. This design was easier to nail down.

The Harvest I could only come up with one solid idea. You can’t see them cause I kept erasing them, but I kept trying cornucopia with body parts in it or full of blood. They didn’t really work. This last one was using cornucopias as fangs. It’s still not really working.

The second design works better. The master is so pale and has those shape fingernails. So using his hand and finger as a scythe which tiny figures about to be cut down. That will probably be the one of the two I clean up. It’s why I eventually did a finished version.
