Daily Dresden Drawings – Summer Knight Lea

So here is a link to the Grave Peril drawing I did of Lea. She hasn’t changed much so her is my old notes on her.

She is described as inhumanly beautiful, which honestly isn’t very helpful when you are trying draw. It’s like how H.P. Lovecraft monsters are beyond reason and cause madness. It’s a way of describing without telling you anything, because the writer is smart enough to know that is going to mean very different things to different people and letting them fill in the blank is much more effective. It’s a good writing tool, but it makes visuals harder to nail down. So for Lea’s inhuman beauty she is also described as cat like. So I looked at the Queen of the elves drawing in the Art of Discworld book and the elves in Dragon Age 2. In both cases their nose doesn’t indent. It just goes straight from the forehead to the bridge of the nose. I liked that because it is a small thing that makes them look more animal like. I also put her eye brows slightly higher than normal. Now for her dress, I looked up old Celtic dresses since Leanan sidhe is originally from Celtic myth. Those were mostly robes and tunics. But they didn’t really show off her chest enough like described in the book. So I gave her one of those dresses that just falls downward and isn’t taken in at any point. This way as she moves you would get hints and glimpses of her figure to sort of tease people. I also gave her no shoes because she probably doesn’t need them. Because of that her toes are a little more spread apart from not wearing shoes as often. Also, Lea isn’t wearing a bra for pretty much the same reason she’s not wearing shoes

So I kept all of that in mind for this version of Lea. However she isn’t in as much of a villain role in Summer Knight so I made her expressions softer. I altered her dress slightly, but kept it more or less the same. The robe with a knife on it was an pretty simple addition.

Daily Dresden Drawings – Summer Knight Plantmonster

plantmonstersummerknight

The Plant Monster (I’m dyslexic so I’m not even gonna attempt to spell the other name.) is vaguely humanoid but is clear made of branches, pieces of wood, vines, dirt, leaves, and roots. I looked at pictures of Groot and swampthing for inspiration. I tried to make it clear he isn’t just a guy covered in vines. So while the limbs do bend I tried not to have them line up and bend in exactly the same place on each side. He is described as having branches make horns/antlers. He’s also see through in a few places so I made sure that vines and branches weren’t very neat and poked in a few places.

Daily Dresden Drawings – Summer Knight Tigress

So this technically isn’t Tigress’s first appearance but it is the first time we get her name. Her store employee disguise is pretty straight forward. She’s supposed to be completely average, wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and a smock. Her appearance gets interesting when she reveals herself in full ghoul look. Her face is has an enlongated jaw full of fangs. Description of her face are a mix of hyena, baboon, and human. Her shoulders hunch up and her forearms get longer. Her clothing stretches but doesn’t rip. However, given how long her finger talons end up I figured the feet had to bust through whatever shoes she was wearing.

Daily Dresden Drawings – Summer Knight Talos

Elf lord Talos is described as tall and thin and handsome. So I tried to give him a willowy build. He’s got shoulder length hair, that I thought turning in slightly would give would make it more reminiscent of fairytales. That sort of genertically old fashion look is something I also kept in mind with his loose shirt and well fitting pants.

Daily Dresden Drawings – Summer Knight Korrick

korricksummerknight

Korrick the centaur is big and brawny. He’s got a clydesdale as his horse half. So to mimic that in a his human half I tried to make him stockier. I also thought the chest hair would suit someone who is half animal and has a full beard like him. The chest hair also makes for a nicer transition to his horse body. I also tried to angle his nostrils to be vaguely similar to a horse.
