Last person to appear in Summer Knight is Lily. She is in photos and stone before, but this is the first time we actually she her as a person. She has long limbs and curves. I tried to make her sorta trying to sink into herself and be unsure since Lily isn’t good at taking care of herself at this point. And then later I can contrast her next appearance to this one. Since Lily is kinda sweet innocent right now I looked at disney princesses for reference. I also continued the design choice I’m giving all fairies where the bridge of their nose goes right into their forehead and the changelings have only a very slight indent. So Lily can slowly have her face change by the time Cold Days roles around. Her outfit is pretty simple. A green blouse and dark pants. I went with a blouse that is a little puffy in the sleeves and chest so it’s modest but still bring attention to her curves.

Mother Summer is described as bent with age and having a rosey face. Since all the Summer Court is usually the nicer side of fairy I tried to shoot for a friendly grandmother look in her face. Not much is said about what she is wearing, but since the courts mirror each other I figured she would also wear a robe and shawl.

So no head shots for Mother Winter because we don’t see her face in her first appearance. We really only see her old hands which are knitting and withered. She is described as a moving pile of clothes, that is just a robe and a shale.

The unicorn outside the Mother’s cottage is a thing that is hard to make clear in a sketch. Mostly because it’s all black, also because a lot of the more disturbing bits are details that are hard to convey in a quick sketch. It has scales instead of horse hair. Then the hair and tail are made of old cobwebs. It has no eyes and coven hoofs. It’s horn is two horns twisted together with a serrated edge. Harry compares it to a Clydesdale so I got some reference photos for the basically body type.

I’m in the last week of drawing the characters as they first appear in Summer Knight. So here is what I decided would be the cover for when I put the downloadable PDF of all these sketched and their notes together: Toot and a few flickering light members of the Za Lord’s Guard enjoying some well deserved pizza.
