Hey everyone on the Podcast Surviving Creativity. They asked a bunch of creators 5 questions and we all answered.
I said that I define success as being able to pay my bills and draw comics all day.
My greatest failure was not know enough about book production/learning enough about it before hand. So a book I printed was something I wasn’t proud of production wise.
My process is I script the whole thing. Then I thumbnail the book which is stick figure theater. Pencils are done in manga studio. I print the pencils up and then ink with a paint brush traditionally. Then I color it in photoshop.
The “trick” I use is mostly being fast. But I should have also added that I’m fairly organized.
Advice for people starting out, is to think about what you want to achieve/focus on in a story. This doesn’t have to be a grand master change the world thing. Just something as simple like try to get better at writing action scenes or better at straight black and white art. That way even if the book isn’t a masterpiece, can at least be proud of achieve that kinda smaller goal that probably helped you improve as an artist.
There are a lot of cool answers to those questions so you should definitely give it a listen.
