Here is another batch of writer notes on Sorcery 101. If you want to read ahead on these got ahead on these head over to my patreon.
Title page
So I still trying to be more designy with my covers and trying to have the title interact with the image which is why ORDERS is written in the puddle. Rain takes a long time to ink but I find it fairly relaxing.

This scene with Ally and Mr. Tamura could probably be cut. The whole pulling the sushi appart is cause Mr. Tamura isn’t human and I wanted to like hint at that with his diet being different. He doesn’t eat cooked food basically. But it never comes up again so in hind sight this scene doesn’t do much and also doesn’t make that clear.
The first panel of Cal might be the best drawing I ever did of him. His exchange with the other angel is supposed to start setting up that Cal isn’t on the best terms with other angels. So when he finally meets his end it’s not coming out of no where.
page 757 – 766
Will needs to do his dishes because I always like to put stuff in the background. Anyway, like I said, rain takes a long time but it was very relaxing to ink. I also like to put in details like how it being wet out out makes stuff shinier and how you can see Ally’s breath but not Pat’s. It also lets you know how cold out it is.
Also, in this whole scene I wanted to play up that Pat’s appart from the rest of the cast. So Ally has an umbrella cause she has a support network and friends and family. Pat has no one so he is left out in the rain. BAM SYMBOLISM. Cue the sad music. Ally is also 100% not going to share said umbrella.
Also, because Pat’s already defeated emotionally he doesn’t put up much of a fight.
page 767 – 770
I wanted to establish from the get go that Seth is a bad driver. And this scene is mostly to get info to Brad and Danny so they can try to save the day and establishing more of Cal being the worst at his job.
Page 771 – 772
Ally is not the type to take being trapped lying down. So this brief scene is mostly her immediately trying to think of ways out. That and of coarse the fact that Pat does get hungry fairly quickly.
Page 773 – 775
Seth has the best plans. That panel of him shouting is the most Seth in a nutshell panel.
Page 776 – 782
Two break out scenes are to show Ally and Danny basically had the same idea. But it’s no match for Seth’s continuation of world’s most straight forward plans.
Page 783 – 787
This is trying to get across a few things. The first being that Mr. Tamura does care about Ally. He doesn’t show his emotions much but how he just drops everything shows he cares. Also, I’m continuing the no one care about Pat. Except Danny and oddly Seth. Seth saves Pat a few times just so he will keep teaching Danny sorcery and that is supposed to hint at why Seth has Danny around. Also, I wanted to make clear that Mr. Tamura is 100% not okay with Seth style murder everyone plans.
Page 788 – 794
You get some exposition on what Pat did. Mr. Tamura smiles for one of the very few times in the comic. Ally gets a warm welcome for everyone to play up what’s been running through the whole chapter. And only Danny notices Pat feeling down and end on him finally having someone.
